What a drama in Rio!
Kei Nishikori wins an impossible match against Monfils after coming back from death.
What happened?
The Japanese no.1 found himself facing three consecutive match points when he was 3-6 down in the breaker of the 3rd set. Eventually, Kei won the first point with a great serve on the body; then the Japanese won the second point with a confident volley. Monfils had the 3rd match point on his serve, but he committed suicide with a horrible double fault. After reaching the 6-all scoreline, it was time for Nishikori to send Monfils packing. The Japanese won 7-6 (4) 4-6 7-6 (6).

I had nothing to lose. NISHIKORI
Talking about that mad tiebreak, Nishikori commented
“I thought I had nothing to lose from 6-3 down. I knew that my concentration wasn’t there from the beginning of the tiebreak, so I tried to play a little more aggressive.”
It was tough. MONFILS
Gael was utterly disappointed by the conclusion of the match, but he had to acknowledge the value of his opponent.
“It was tough, but I think Kei is a great player,” said Monfils. “I found a solution to get back in the game after he broke straight away in the second, and then it was an even battle until the end.
I had my match-point opportunities, and I think he just played great. When he had his chance he took it straight away, so well done to him.”
Next vs. Murray
Kei will play Murray for a place in the final. The head to head is 6-1 for Murray.
