Poland and the USA kicked off their 2025 United Cup final match with Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, and the American player won. After the game, though, there was a brief tense moment when the two players gathered to shake hands. The world No. 2 Swiatek appeared to shake hands with the No. 3 Gauff in a chilly manner. The Pole was later criticized by a number of fans as a result.
In Sydney, Gauff defeated Swiatek 6-4, 6-4 to give the USA the lead. She then went to the net to shake the Pole’s hand after doing a digging celebration.
After giving the American the shortest of handshakes, a clearly irritated Swiatek left the court, clearly not in the mood to engage in small talk. Gauff continued to celebrate courtside alongside the other members of the American team.
Swiatek’s seemingly uninterested attitude during her handshake with Gauff did not impress many X fans.
One fan wrote: “Iga is such a sore loser.”
Another one commented: “Iga the sore loser. Glad she lost.”
One fan wrote: “Iga is FROSTY! Mama was salty as hell.”
Another wrote: “That handshake, more reasons to dislike Iga.”
