Iga Swiatek has provided an update on her physical health ahead of the 2025 Australian Open, following an injury scare during her United Cup loss to Coco Gauff.

Swiatek Injury Concerns

Following an injury scare during her United Cup loss to Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek has given an update on her physical condition ahead of the 2025 Australian Open. In the opening match of Poland’s 2-0 defeat to the United States in the 2025 United Cup final in Sydney, the world No. 2 was defeated 6-4, 6-4 by Gauff.

Swiatek lost for the third time in 14 meetings with the 20-year-old American, losing both sets to Gauff after failing to convert her breaks.

Swiatek took a medical timeout to have strapping put on her left thigh after falling behind 5–4 in the second set. Following her loss, the 23-year-old appeared to be walking carefully as she exited the court in tears.

Early in the third set of her exciting and exhausting victory over Katie Boulter in Poland’s quarterfinal matchup with Great Britain, Swiatek was treated for damage to her right thigh. In the semi-finals, she defeated Elena Rybakina in a thrilling straight-set match while wearing strapping on the same thigh. Swiatek’s fitness is a source of some concern as the 2025 Australian Open gets underway on Sunday, January 12.

When asked if the treatment she received was for a different problem than the one that had plagued her in her prior matches, Swiatek pointed to exhaustion during Team Poland’s post-final press conference.

She talked about it and said: “Well, taping wasn’t a different leg, but nothing happened really. Like, I was just tired. You know, the volume at the beginning of the tournament especially has been pretty big, so yeah, but honestly, like, this really, it’s all good.”

She added: “I’m for sure happy, because, you know, I played some heavy hitters as well this week and also some girls that played tough. I was able to play against both really great tennis. For sure, today I wasn’t able to give 100%. Coco also played amazingly, and she’s definitely improving. But overall, I’m really happy with the week. I feel like the things I worked on really improved. But on the other hand, like, you know, this week, the Australian Open is a different story, so still, I’m going to do everything step by step and continue the work that I have been doing.”
