Melbourne, Australia – Reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova has announced her withdrawal from the 2025 Australian Open due to a lingering back injury. The World No. 10 shared the news on social media, expressing her disappointment at missing the tournament. Krejcikova, who reached the quarter-finals in Melbourne last year, stated that her back injury, which troubled her at the end of last season, is still not fully healed.

“I love playing in Melbourne and have such great memories from reaching the quarter-finals last year,” Krejcikova wrote. “Thanks to all of you for your support. I’m working hard to get back to full health, and I can’t wait to see you on the court soon!”

Krejcikova’s withdrawal follows other high-profile exits from the tournament, including former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki. Krejcikova’s spot in the draw will be taken by Canada’s Rebecca Marino. Marino, who has had a remarkable journey back to the sport after battling injuries and personal challenges, will now have the opportunity to compete in the main draw.

Marino, currently ranked No. 102 in the world, expressed her excitement about the opportunity. “It has been quite a challenge and a rollercoaster through life so to get back and have a moment like this is really redeeming and I am proud of everything I have accomplished,” Marino said.

The Australian Open main draw begins on January 12, and fans are eagerly anticipating the performances of both seasoned players and rising stars like Marino.
