In a bold assertion, former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash has declared that Emma Raducanu “absolutely has the talent to compete at the highest level” and suggested the 22-year-old Londoner possesses greater potential than current world No. 8, Emma Navarro, who reached the semifinals of the 2024 US Open.
Since her remarkable 2021 US Open triumph, Raducanu has faced struggles with injuries, leading to three surgeries. Despite these challenges, she showed resilience last year, participating in 13 tournaments and staying injury-free, indicating positive progress in her career.
As the 2025 season begins, Cash, the 1987 Wimbledon winner, expressed optimism for Raducanu’s potential resurgence. Speaking to Tennis365, he emphasized the fragmented nature of the current competitive field and Raducanu’s ability to capitalize on this if she remains fit and active in tournaments.
“We’ve seen a fragmented playing field with just a handful of athletes distinguishing themselves at the top; thus, if Raducanu can stay fit and clock in the necessary match time, she might just create some remarkable moments,” said Cash.
He also compared Raducanu’s and Navarro’s games, stating, “Navarro poses challenges with her competitive edge and tricky style, but Raducanu’s game holds much more depth.”
While Raducanu’s 2025 campaign started with a setback—her withdrawal from Auckland due to a back injury—she has resumed practice and is preparing for the Australian Open, aiming to reclaim her place among tennis’s elite.
