In a nail-biting match that kept fans on the edge of their seats, Iga Swiatek delivered a stunning performance to secure a 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-4 victory over Katie Boulter, propelling Team Poland into the semifinals of the United Cup. The match, which lasted nearly three hours, was a true testament to Swiatek’s resilience and determination.

The match began with Swiatek taking an early lead, building a 4-1 advantage in the first set. However, Boulter fought back valiantly, breaking Swiatek’s serve and forcing a tiebreak. In a dramatic turn of events, Boulter clinched the first set with a 4-point streak in the tiebreak.

Undeterred by the setback, Swiatek came back strong in the second set, breaking Boulter’s serve three times to take the set 6-1. The deciding set was a fierce battle, with both players showcasing their best tennis. Swiatek, after taking a medical timeout, returned to the court with renewed vigor and managed to break Boulter at love to seal the match.

Swiatek’s victory came on the heels of Hubert Hurkacz’s win over Billy Harris, giving Poland an insurmountable 2-0 lead over Great Britain. This win ensures that Poland will face Kazakhstan in the semifinals, with the winner advancing to the final.

Reflecting on the match, Swiatek said, “This match was crazy, so many changes of momentum. I thought I had it under control in the first set, but for sure I got tight and didn’t work on it. I didn’t want to repeat the same mistake in the third. I took like four painkillers because a lot hurt, but I’m happy that we won.”

Swiatek’s triumph not only advances Poland to the semifinals but also marks her 11th singles win at the United Cup, the most of any player since the tournament’s inception in 2023. With her exceptional performance, Swiatek continues to solidify her status as one of the top players in women’s tennis.
