Juan Martin had an incredible Sunday in Rio de Janeiro. The Argentine was stuck 40 minutes in the elevator of the Olympic Village before playing the world no.1 Novak Djokovic. Eventually, Juan Martin made headlines twice after upsetting Nole in a great match.
Djokovic was the favorite to win the encounter, but he was struggling since the beginning to hold serve while Del Potro was much more solid on his service games. Eventually, the difference between these two was in 2 breakers when the Argentine took advantage of his superior form. The match ended 7-6 (4) 7-6 (2).

Lots of tears were shed after the match. From one side Djokovic was again very disappointed for failing (again) to grab a coveted gold medal (one of the few trophies he has never won). On the other side, Del Potro was completely emotional for having beaten one of the best players in tennis history after being sidelined for almost 2 years by his wrist injury.
Del Potro in tears on the court. Djokovic sobbing as he leaves it. That mattered, big time. https://t.co/79icSqx4ji

I love the sport. DEL POTRO
After the match, Juan Martin was barely able to speak to say “It’s really difficult to talk. I love the sport. I love the crowd. It was amazing.”
