Emma Raducanu, the former US Open champion, began 2025 with disappointment as she announced her withdrawal from the Auckland Open due to a back injury. The British star, who has faced a series of injuries throughout her career, expressed regret about missing the tournament, citing her love for the city and its fans.
“I’ve tried my best to be ready. I love Auckland and the fans here. But unfortunately, I’ve picked up a back niggle and I won’t be ready in time,” Raducanu shared, according to ESPN.
The 22-year-old also posted a cryptic message on social media to welcome the New Year, sparking curiosity among fans. The message, accompanied by a reflective photo, hinted at introspection and resilience for the challenges ahead.
Raducanu, currently ranked outside the top 50, has struggled to find consistent form since her historic US Open triumph in 2021. The back injury adds to her growing list of fitness concerns, which have hindered her progress on the WTA Tour.
