Despite Zhang’s aggressive baseline play and depth of shot, Gauff managed to break her opponent’s serve multiple times, ultimately clinching the set in a nail-biting tiebreak.
In the second set, Gauff took control early, racing to a 3-0 lead and maintaining her composure to close out the match after 1 hour and 34 minutes. This victory improved Gauff’s record against Zhang to 3-0, solidifying her dominance in their head-to-head encounters.
Taylor Fritz, ranked World No. 4, followed Gauff’s lead with a solid performance in his singles match against China’s Zhang Zhizhen.
