Genie Bouchard has a fantastic start of her campaign in Rio. The Canadian wasn’t even sure she would have participated in the Games, and now she is in Brazil full of energy trying to get a medal.
Genie defeated Sloane Stephens in the first round 6-3 6-3 without struggling too much.
I was very focused. BOUCHARD
Genie explained how she beat the American “I felt good out there, I was just trying to be very solid, and I think I did that well. I don’t think I gave her too many chances. I was there on every one of the return games. I was pushing her, and I was close to breaking her a couple of times, so I am happy mentally. I was very focused.”

Next vs. Kerber?
Genie will probably play the world no.2, Angelique Kerber, in the second round. The German should have no problems in beating Mariana Duque-Marino in the opener (at least on paper). The head to head is 3-1 for Genie vs. Angelique. The Canadian has beaten Kerber 2 months ago in Rome.
