Matteo Berrettini is a rather confident guy right now. The Italian has been playing magnificent tennis on grass after he won the title in Stuttgart and he reached the semifinal in Halle. The 23-year-old has already conquered 2 titles this season; besides his recent triumph in Germany, he also won the ATP250 in Budapest back in April.
Matteo is currently ranked no.20 (career high), and he reached the 2nd week in Wimbledon after saving 3 match points against Diego Schwartzman in the 3rd round before winning 6-7(5) 7-6(2) 4-6 7-6(5) 6-3.
Why Berrettini thinks he can beat Federer
The Italian will face Roger Federer in the 4th round, and he is confident he can upset the 8-time champion. Matteo admitted that he is a fan of the Swiss to comment:
“I kind of stopped cheering for him when I first saw my name and his name in the same draw. I realized I had to stop cheering for him. I think I have the weapons to win that match.”
Berrettini is a rather tall guy (1.96 m) and he possesses a huge serve. He blasted 22 aces against Schwartzman, 16 against Marcos Baghdatis and 19 against Ajlaz Bedene in the previous rounds.
Head to Head Matteo Berrettini vs. Roger Federer
This match will be the first time that Matteo and Roger Federer will face each other and the Wimbledon Centre Court seems to be the perfect venue. The encounter will take place on Monday as the 3rd match of the day.
