Zverev Reflects On 2024 Setbacks And Preseason Adjustments Ahead Of United Cup 2025

Alexander Zverev, who has emerged as a strong contender for major titles despite not yet clinching the top spot, is entering the 2025 season with renewed focus. Following a promising 2024, which saw his aggressive tennis style gain traction, the German aims to overcome some setbacks he faced last year, particularly issues related to fatigue and injuries.

Zverev’s first test of the year came at the United Cup 2025, where he made a solid debut with a victory. Reflecting on his past season, Zverev acknowledged that he had made important changes in his training regimen, especially in regard to physical preparation. His serve, in particular, was one of the highlights of his 2024 campaign, statistically among his best, despite some lingering elbow concerns. However, he noted that while his serving has improved, he’s still working on increasing his speed and sharpening his baseline play.

“I’ve reunited with Jaz Green, with whom I worked for seven years and then parted ways for three. Now we are back together,” Zverev shared. Green’s return to his team signals a renewed focus on physical conditioning, an area that Zverev emphasized as key for his success this year. He recalled how fatigue impacted some of his performances last year, particularly against Daniil Medvedev at the Australian Open and Carlos Alcaraz at Roland Garros. “I lost one or two matches due to fatigue, which I don’t want to happen this year,” Zverev admitted, emphasizing his commitment to avoiding similar issues in 2025.

Looking ahead to the United Cup, Zverev expressed his anticipation for his upcoming challenge against China’s top player. He praised the player’s rapid improvement and predicted a tough match. “I expect it to be a tough challenge. He is someone climbing in the rankings. He keeps improving every year,” Zverev said. As he continues to build on his 2024 momentum, Zverev is focused on making adjustments both physically and mentally, in hopes of breaking through to the next level in his career.
