Martina Hingis Reveals Mirra Andreeva Asked Her To Coach In 2024

Martina Hingis, a name synonymous with tennis excellence, recently shared insights into her interactions with rising WTA star Mirra Andreeva. Speaking on The Sit-Down podcast, Hingis revealed that the 17-year-old phenom had approached her about a potential coaching partnership earlier this year.

“I’m a big fan of hers, the way she plays,” Hingis said. However, due to family commitments, including her daughter’s kindergarten schedule, Hingis was unable to accept the offer.

Andreeva, who made significant strides in 2024, reached the semifinals at Roland Garros, claimed her first WTA title, and broke into the top 20, peaking at No. 16. Often compared to Hingis for her tactical approach and maturity, the young Russian has drawn admiration from tennis enthusiasts and legends alike.

Hingis praised Andreeva’s game and potential, while suggesting areas for improvement. “I like her style, I like her attitude,” Hingis remarked, noting that greater aggression and stepping into the court could elevate Andreeva to a top-10 ranking.

Currently coached by Conchita Martinez, Andreeva continues to refine her skills. Hingis remains optimistic about her future, expressing confidence in Andreeva’s trajectory. “We’ll see how far she’s going to take it,” Hingis concluded.
