Casper Ruud has his sights set on returning to the top five in 2025 while recognizing the elevated performances of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Speaking at the United Cup in Sydney, the Norwegian world No. 6 expressed optimism about his ability to climb the rankings despite tough competition.
“If you end the year top 10, it’s been a good year, but top five is definitely reachable,” said Ruud. He acknowledged the stellar years of Sinner and Alcaraz, labeling them as players on “a different level,” but remains confident in challenging for higher spots.
Ruud, 26, enjoyed a solid 2024 with victories in Geneva and Barcelona but aims to improve his consistency in Grand Slams after a mixed season. His best performance came at the French Open, where he reached the semifinals.
Reflecting on missed opportunities, he said, “Last season was good in some ways, but I felt I could have done better here in Australia and at Wimbledon.” Ruud plans to target deeper runs at majors while building on his past success, including a career-high world No. 2 ranking in 2022.
Despite fierce competition, Ruud remains motivated. “Everyone is competitive,” he stated. “If I’m playing well, I can take a few more steps. I’ve been there before, and that’s a high goal.”
