Australian tennis player Thanasi Kokkinakis has announced his withdrawal from the Brisbane International, citing a hip injury that requires more time to heal. The 28-year-old received a wildcard entry into the tournament but will no longer be participating in the main draw.
In a heartfelt message on social media, Kokkinakis expressed his disappointment, saying, “Sad to miss @BrisbaneTennis this year. Dealing with a small hip issue that needs some more time, but hopefully back for the rest of the summer.”
Kokkinakis was last seen in action at the UTS London event in early December and had also represented Australia at the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga. Despite his current setback, he remains optimistic about his return, with his sights set on the Adelaide International, which begins on January 6. Should his recovery progress smoothly, he hopes to be ready for the Australian Open starting on January 12.
Fans and fellow players alike are sending their best wishes to Kokkinakis as he focuses on his recovery and aims to make a strong comeback in the upcoming tournaments.
