Strange fate for Serbia. Jankovic and Ivanovic had an inpiring weekend to bring Serbia in the finals of the Fed Cup and then both players lost in the first round in Stuttgart.

This was the match of the day from two former nr.1.
Jelena had a head start to get a quick 3-1 lead. Then Caroline fought back to win 6 straight games to get to a 6-3 1-0 scoreline. Unfortunately, after 55 minutes of play the Serbian had to retire for a low back injury.
Caroline will play Kerber in the next round.
BARTHEL – IVANOVIC 7-5 7-6 (4)
The Serbian beauty had to deal with a very powerful display of German Mona Barthel. Ranked world nr.35, Mona had an incredible match to blast 11 aces and to get to the second round in 1h 42m.
The German will face Bartoli in the 2nd round.
SHARAPOVA – CORNET 6-3 1-0 ret
Another little disappointment came from this interrupted match. Maria was not playing here since 2005 and many were eager to see her back. Unfortunately after50 minutes Alize Cornet had to retire in tears because of a right shoulder injury.
The Russian will face iether Stosur or Goerges in the next round.
RADWANSKA – ARN 6-3 6-4
Agnieszka is playing her best tennis and she is inches away to become worold nr.3. She had another fine disply of her tennis against Greata Ann of Hungary to defeat her in stright sets.
