Former British tennis star Laura Robson has declared Carlos Alcaraz the standout ATP player of 2024, citing his historic Channel Slam as the defining achievement. Despite Jannik Sinner winning two Grand Slam titles and six additional trophies compared to Alcaraz’s four titles, Robson emphasized the Spaniard’s extraordinary summer as unparalleled.

Alcaraz claimed his first Roland Garros title with a thrilling five-set victory over Alexander Zverev and followed it with a dominant straight-sets win over Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final. He nearly capped the year with Olympic gold but fell short against Djokovic in the final.

“You’re changing surfaces. It’s such a short amount of time between tournaments. Just the three months he put together was something special, and something that very few players have been able to do,” Robson remarked on Sky Sports.

Alcaraz became just the sixth man in the Open Era to complete the Channel Slam and now aims to secure the Australian Open title in 2025. A victory in Melbourne would make him the youngest male player in history to achieve the Career Grand Slam.

Meanwhile, John McEnroe lauded Alcaraz’s talent, calling him “the greatest talent I’ve seen in 20 years.” However, McEnroe expressed concerns about Alcaraz’s height, noting it could pose challenges against taller players with powerful serves.

Still, McEnroe predicted a bright future for the 21-year-old, stating, “This guy’s incredible. He could easily win 10 Grand Slam titles.” So far, Alcaraz has captured four Majors and continues to be one of tennis’s most electrifying stars.
