Kyrgios and Djokovic set to partner for Brisbane International doubles

Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic will partner in Brisbane International doubles, marking Kyrgios’s competitive return after injury struggles.

Kyrgios And Djokovic Set To Partner For Brisbane International Doubles

Nick Kyrgios has announced he will team up with Novak Djokovic for the doubles event at the Brisbane International, held from December 29 to January 5. The unexpected pairing comes as both players prepare for the 2025 Australian Open, which begins on January 12.

The partnership marks a significant moment for the two athletes, who have transformed their relationship from heated rivalry to mutual respect. Kyrgios, once a vocal critic of Djokovic, famously called him “boneheaded” and a “tool.” However, their bond deepened following Djokovic’s support of Kyrgios during his legal battles surrounding the Australian Open vaccine controversy.

The duo has a history of intense singles encounters, with Kyrgios winning their first two matches in 2017. Djokovic claimed victory in their last meeting during the 2022 Wimbledon final, securing his 21st Grand Slam title.

Kyrgios shared the news on Instagram, posting a photo from their Wimbledon clash and captioning it, “Doubles at Brisbane. See y’all there.” The announcement has sparked excitement among fans eager to see the dynamic pairing in action.

The Brisbane International doubles event also marks Kyrgios’s return to competitive tennis after two injury-plagued years. He plans to play singles at the ATP 250 event with a protected ranking of 21 and reunite with his longtime doubles partner, Thanasi Kokkinakis, at the Australian Open.

Kyrgios and Kokkinakis, known as the “Special Ks,” won the men’s doubles title at Melbourne Park in 2022, their first Grand Slam victory as a team.

For Djokovic, Brisbane will serve as a warmup for another potential Australian Open title run. The Serbian icon, fresh off winning his 24th Grand Slam, aims to extend his record at Melbourne Park, where he has already secured 10 championships.

Tennis enthusiasts eagerly await the Brisbane International as it sets the stage for thrilling matchups and unexpected collaborations ahead of the first Grand Slam of the year.
