Nadal, Tipsarevic, Raonic and Ferrer advance, Tomic upset – 2012 500 ATP Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell

Great day in Barcelona with top guys advancing to the next round

NADAL – GARCIA-LOPEZ 6-1 6-2

Rafa’s law rules also in Barcelona. The King of Clay left only 3 games to his fellow countryman that had to cope with 15 break points (!). The match lasted 81 minutes.
Apparently Rafa’s left knee is still not 100%, but he mantains it won’t be a problem.
“I had a few errors, but my backhand felt good the entire match. I was solid,” he said. “Things went better than I would have thought, it was a good win.”
Nadal will play Robert Farah (ranked 246) in the next round. The Colombian qualifier defeated Andujar 7-6 (8) 4-6 7-5 in 2h 49 minutes.

RAONIC  – ANDREEV 6-4 6-1

This was an inspiring victory for the upcoming Canadian. Milos is working hard on improving his skills on clay and it seems he is succeeding in it. Even if Andreev is now ranked 82, he is still a very dangerous player. Raonic was very consistent. He balsted only 5 aces, but he managed to win 90% of the points on his 1st serve and 73% on the second without conceding a break point.
Milos will play Almagro in the next round… and this will be an important test on clay for he Canadian.

FERRER – KRAJINOVIC 6-0 6-3

It took less than 1 hour for David to breeze past the Serbian wildcard. The different ranking (Krajinovic is world nr. 789) was quite clear on the court. The first set was particularly embarassing. The Serbian won in total 8 points of which  1 out of 10 on his first serve (!!!)
“I played pretty well, it was a relatively comfortable start,” said the the Spaniard.”The second set was not as good as the first, but I kept my energy and speed.I had shoulder problems but I had treatment here on Friday. But I still didn’t know last Sunday if I could play.I did recover but I still need to rest to avoid problems,”
Ferrer will play Montanes in the next round.

MONTANES – TOMIC  6-0 5-7 7-5

Terrible stuff for the Australian… or maybe not so terrible at the end. The first set was unreal with Tomic winning only 5 points in total! He was able to put in only 40% of his first serves winning 2 out 6 point and 1 out of 9 on the second serve. Scary!
The very good thing is that Bernard managed to regroup after that Waterloo to win the second set 7-5 and to lose the 3rd also 7-5. Tomic has still some work to do… He needs something more.
