Coco Gauff conquers Serena Williams, Federer, Barty, and Kyrgios with her run in Wimbledon

WIMBLEDON. Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Ashleigh Barty, and Nick Kyrgios are amazed by the American teenager

Roger Federer and Cori Gauff

Cori Gauff (known as Coco) is the story of the week.

The 15-year-old from the US reached the 4th round in Wimbledon coming straight from the qualifications. Coco reached the 3rd round winning 6 consecutive matches without conceding a single set and beating her idol Venus Williams on the way.

On Friday, Gauff won an incredible match after saving 2 match points while she was 3-6 2-5 and 3-6 3-5 down against Polona Hercog to conquer the encounter at the decider putting the crowd on fire.

Coco is also winning the admiration of the other top tennis players that are certain that she is not “just” a fantastic story, but she is there to stay.

Roger Federer on Coco Gauff

Roger was caught on camera giving his “well-done” to the young American a few days ago. Talking about her match against Venus Williams, the Swiss commented “I watched the entire match. I was having treatment. I think it was an amazing situation, to play somebody 23 or 24 years older. That stuff doesn’t happen every day.

I thought it was super special for Coco. I thought she handled it great. She wanted to be on the big court. She wanted to play against her idol. Good players, that’s where they shine, I’d say.”

Serena Williams

The American is not new on having nice and encouraging words for upcoming players to comment

“I just love Coco and her family. They’re just really sweet. Her dad is just a good guy. She’s pretty awesome and pretty cool. Honestly, I feel honored that I was on her wall at some point in her life. Soon she’ll be on other girls’ walls. It’s nice, because it will keep it going from the next generation to next generation.”

Ashleigh Barty

The newly minted world no.1 was surprised about her maturity at such a young age when she saw her playing a few years ago. The Australian commented:

“I saw her play a few years ago. What you see is just an incredible athlete. I think she’s got a really good head on her shoulders. She seems very mature. From the outside looking in, she seems like she’s really enjoying her tennis. Looks like a big-game player. Loves the spotlight. Loves the moment. But also she’s earned her way through qualifying, with some exceptional tennis. I think she’s going to have a very, very bright future.”

Nick Kyrgios

The Australian is also a big fan of Coco to say:

“She’s going to have the potential to do some amazing things in this sport. She’s got a lot of good people around her, as well. To see her beat her idol was pretty cool. I was actually watching it back in my Airbnb. I hit with her when she was 12 at Miami; Ihit with her this year again. She’s the real deal. She’s amazing.”

Gauff’s live rankings

Cori is now ranked no.313, but after reaching the 4th round at the Championships she is no.139 in the live rankings. Coco will play Simona Halep in the next round and if she beats the Romanian she is projected to break in the top100!

Not surprisingly there is no head to head record between Cori and Simona as the American has just started her run in the professional tennis.
