Federer’s four losses in 2005 were to Rafael Nadal in the French Open semifinal (6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3), to Marat Safin (5-7, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6), 9-7) in the Australian Open semi-final, to Richard Gasquet in the Monte Carlo Masters quarterfinal (6-7 (1-7), 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) and to David Nalbandian in the Masters Cup final (6-7 (4-7), 6-7 (11-13), 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).
With six straight losses, including two at Grand Slams and four in best-of-three-set matches, Sinner concluded the 2024 season with a 73-6 record.
With eight victories, including his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open and US Open, and his first ascent to the top of the ATP Rankings in June, the 23-year-old Sinner has emerged as the best player on the ATP Tour in 2024.
