Andrea Petkovic has acknowledged the gap that Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev have made between themselves and the other ATP top 10 players as a result of their accomplishments in 2024. Petkovic brought up the difference between the three players’ season-long ranking points and those of the players immediately below them in the ATP Tour rankings.
Sinner has 11,830 points after finishing the season as the top-ranked player in the world. world No. 2 Zverev has 7,915 points. With 7,010 points, Alcaraz is ranked third in the world. But with 5,100 and 5,030 points, respectively, world No. 4 Taylor Fritz and world No. 5 Daniil Medvedev are in second and third place. Not a single player lower in the rankings than Medvedev has reached 5,000 points.
Former WTA world No. 9 Petkovic recently evaluated the 2024 point totals of Sinner, Zverev, and Alcaraz and noted that even their closest opponents are far behind them. In an open conversation with Rennae Stubbs on a recent episode of ‘The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast’, Petkovic made her assessment.
She talked about it and said: “I was looking at the top 5 today, and what really stood out to me was that Taylor is No. 4, Daniil Medvedev is No. 5, and they are at 5,000 points, roughly. One is 5,100 and the other is 5,030 or something. Right? And then, Carlos and Zverev are around 7,000 points and Jannik has almost 12,000. So this is what I’m saying. I do think Carlos, Sascha and Jannik Sinner have set themselves apart from the pack.”
The German player continued by saying that it is only if players like Zverev and Alcaraz struggle in the early going of the Majors that players like Fritz and Medvedev will be able to catch up next year. Petkovic asserted, however, that it is unlikely for either the German or the Spaniard to lose early in a Grand Slam.
She added: “The points are telling the story because 2,000 points between Carlos and Taylor and Daniil are winning a Slam tournament and Carlos and Sascha lose the first round, which won’t happen. That’s a big difference.”
