After a defeat in the Davis Cup final to Jannik Sinner, Dutch player Tallon Griekspoor shared admiration for the Italian’s skill but questioned his innocence in the ongoing doping controversy involving Clostebol. Griekspoor stated, “Sinner is a wonderful guy and a great player, but in the end, you never know what happened.”
Sinner, currently ATP No. 1, was acquitted by an independent court and successfully appealed two suspensions. However, a final ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is still pending after WADA’s appeal.
The Italian Tennis Federation has staunchly defended Sinner, celebrating his achievements in a landmark year, including Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup victories. Federation Chairman Angelo Binaghi emphasized faith in Sinner’s innocence, stating, “I don’t know what more needs to be done to prove his innocence.”
As Italy relishes its tennis triumphs, plans to expand the Rome Internationals underscore the federation’s commitment to growth. Meanwhile, Sinner’s fate in the Clostebol case remains uncertain.
