Andy Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion, met Vandy Murray, a refrigerated van owned by City Harvest London and supported by the Wimbledon Foundation, the All England Lawn Tennis Club’s and the Championships’ official charity.
The Wimbledon Foundation gave a £150,000 grant to City Harvest, a charity that rescues excess food from all points in the UK food chain and re-distributes it to grassroots organizations that feed some of the most vulnerable citizens of London, in response to the cost-of-living crisis.
With Andy Murray’s kind approval, City Harvest invited the Wimbledon Foundation to name the co-branded van. In March 2023, Vandy Murray was introduced at the Wimbledon Foundation’s annual reception.
Sarah Calcutt, Chief Executive of City Harvest London, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Wimbledon Foundation for generously supporting one of our vans; this enables us to deliver an additional £1.5m worth of food to people facing hunger and disadvantage in London. With living costs continuing to soar, the Foundation’s commitment comes at a time when our service is more vital than ever. That Andy was kind enough to allow his name to be used is an incredible gift—our vans are instantly recognizable, and Vandy Murray has had such a positive response wherever it has been seen on the road.”
