Svitolina ousts Sakkari in the 3rd round of Wimbledon

Elina Svitolina ousts Maria Sakkari 6-3 6-7¹ 6-2 in the 3^rd round in London on Friday.

1^st set.

The Ukrainian clinched the set after recovering from 1 break down. In fact, after dropping her serve in the 4^th (1-3) game, The Ukrainian broke back 3 times in the 5^th (2-3), in the 7^th (4-3) and in the 9^th (6-3) game before winning the set 6-3.

Sakkari was not able to offer any resistance in the last 5 games of the set (from 1-3 to 6-3)

2^nd set.

Sakkari got off on the right foot in the set after breaking Svitolina in the 1^st game (1-0) before consolidating her break and lead 3-0. Nonetheless, that wasn’t sufficient for the Greek to win the set as Elina managed to break back in the 4^th (1-3) and in the 10^th (5-5) game. Maria maintained her focus before winning the set at the tiebreak at 1.

3^rd set.

Elina in this set was in much better shape than the Greek and consequentely she won the set 6-2 after breaking Sakkari in the 3^rd (2-1) and in the 7^th (5-2) game.

At the end of the match, Svitolina scored 100 points vs. Maria’s 91 points.

Elina was well focused in converting 58% of the break points that she conquered (7/12).

On the other side, the Greek had some problems in converting her break points since she converted only 43% of her break points (3/7). That was one of the key issues for her loss.
