Jannik Sinner is very close to becoming just the second man in the Open Era to accomplish such a remarkable feat.

Since tennis became a professional sport in 1968, only Roger Federer and world No. 1 Sinner have gone an entire season without dropping a singles match in straight sets. Sinner is just one victory away from becoming one of them.

If Sinner wins his final match of the 2024 season on Sunday, he will have equalled the record set by tennis great Roger Federer during his amazing 2005 season, when he finished with an 81–4 win-loss record.

In the second singles rubber of the Davis Cup Finals between Italy and the Netherlands, Sinner is scheduled to face Tallon Griekspoor.

He will match Federer’s achievement from almost 20 years ago if he wins that match without dropping any straight sets. Sinner won his three singles matches and two doubles matches last year, leading Italy to the Davis Cup championship.

With all six of her losses going the distance, including two at Grand Slams and four in best-of-three-set matches, Sinner is currently 72-6 for the 2024 season.

In his three losses to Carlos Alcaraz, the Italian lost 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the Indian Wells Open semifinal, 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the Roland Garros semifinal, and 6-7 (6-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in the China Open final.
