As Team Italy thrives at the Davis Cup, Lorenzo Musetti stands out not only for his tennis prowess but also for a life-altering event that has shaped his year—becoming a father. The 21-year-old welcomed his son, Ludovico, with partner Veronica Confalonieri in March, marking a transformative moment in his personal life and career.
Although Musetti didn’t secure any ATP titles in 2024, he delivered noteworthy performances. He reached the semifinals at Wimbledon and the Vienna Open, and advanced to the finals of Challenger tournaments in Cagliari and Turin. These accomplishments were underpinned by a new source of inspiration—fatherhood.
Reflecting on the experience, Musetti confessed his initial fears. “I was pretty scared of everything, honestly. Especially when he was just a newborn. I was really scared of holding him,” he admitted. Yet, the moment a nurse handed Ludovico to him, those fears dissipated. Holding his son felt instinctive. “I held him in a natural way, as if I was always meant to,” Musetti shared.
This profound connection has not only shaped him as a father but also as a player. “The birth of my son gave me a lot of responsibility as a player, not just as a father,” he explained. This newfound perspective has fueled his rise in the ATP rankings, moving from World No. 23 in 2023 to No. 16 in 2024.
Musetti’s season highlights included an unforgettable showdown at the French Open against Novak Djokovic. Pushing the legendary Serbian to five sets, Musetti showcased his immense talent and determination, reinforcing his potential as a future star.
Currently, Musetti is competing alongside Jannik Sinner and Team Italy at the Davis Cup in Spain. While focused on the tournament, he eagerly anticipates reuniting with his family once it concludes. His partner Veronica has offered glimpses into his journey as a father, highlighting the balance he strives to maintain between his career and family life.
As Musetti continues to grow on and off the court, fatherhood appears to be the catalyst for a brighter future in both arenas.
