Gauff, Sabalenka, Swiatek, Qinwen among the WTA nominees for the annual WTA Player Awards

To honour the top players of the 2024 season, the WTA will once again present the WTA Player Awards. The candidates for WTA Annual Player of the Year are Qinwen Zheng, Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff.

The WTA will once again present the WTA Player Awards to honour the best players of the 2024 campaign.

Player of the Year, Most Improved Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, and Doubles Team of the Year are the five categories into which these are divided. International tennis media will cast their votes for the winners.

One of the nominees, Aryna Sabalenka, advanced to seven finals this season and won four titles. She won her first US Open title, defended her Australian Open title, and won WTA 1000 titles in Cincinnati and Wuhan.

For the first time in her career, she finished the season in the top spot at the end of the year and regained the WTA World No. 1 ranking in October.

Among the nominees, Iga Swiatek won five titles this season, the most of any player on the circuit. In addition to winning four WTA 1000 titles—Doha, Indian Wells, Madrid, and Rome—she also achieved success at Roland Garros for the third consecutive year.

Among the nominees is Coco Gauff, who took home three titles in 2024, including her first WTA Finals title and the record $4.8 million in prize money that came with it—the biggest payout in tour history.

Qinwen Zheng is another nominee who advanced to five finals during the 2024 season and won the WTA 250 Palermo and WTA 500 Tokyo titles. competed for the title in her first career WTA Finals, she placed second in her home event, WTA 1000 Wuhan, and her first Slam final, the Australian Open. In 2024, she also took home the gold medal at the Olympics in Paris.
