Former World No. 1 Andy Murray has openly shared his love for padel, a sport gaining immense popularity worldwide. Known for his remarkable tennis career, the two-time Wimbledon champion first encountered padel during his teenage training years in Spain. Since then, the fast-paced game has become a significant part of his life, both as a player and an investor.
Murray credits his fondness for padel to its dynamic nature, requiring skill and precision over raw power. “I like that it’s fast-paced. You’re playing a lot of balls every point and have to react quickly. It’s less about power and more about placement,” Murray explained, emphasizing the technical similarities he appreciates as a tennis player.
Recognizing padel’s growth potential, Murray invested in Game4Padel, the largest padel operator in the UK. His goal is to foster the sport’s expansion across the country, inspired by its massive following in South America, the Middle East, and Europe.
“I invested in Game4Padel a few years ago to help try and grow the sport in the UK,” Murray said. “It’s easy to play, fun, and social, so it will get people of all ages and abilities picking up a racket and giving it a go.”
Murray’s involvement in padel extends beyond the court, reflecting his commitment to promoting the sport and inspiring a new generation of players to embrace its unique appeal.
