With an overwhelming 6-4, 6-4 victory over Taylor Fritz on Sunday, Jannik Sinner became the first Italian to win the coveted ATP Finals title. In front of his passionate home crowd, Sinner who lost to Novak Djokovic in the previous year’s final, put on an almost flawless performance to win the coveted trophy.
Sinner continued to dominate, going the entire week without losing a set and without a loss in a rematch of the 2024 U.S. Open final. The climax of an incredible season was reached when his outstanding performance earned him a prize of $4,881,500.
Against the unyielding Sinner, Fritz became the first American player to advance to the ATP Finals since James Blake in 2006, found it difficult to stay consistent. Fritz made another mistake in the second set, hitting a long forehand to give up his serve, which let Sinner win in 85 minutes.
Despite having to face Sinner twice, Fritz thanked the Italian audience for their support. He wrote on X: “Thank you for all the love and support this week in Torino. Came up short but what a year it’s been, congrats to @janniksin on an incredible week and year. One more final push at Davis Cup this week with the team.”
