During the 2024 Davis Cup Finals Welcome Event at the Malaga Museum, Matteo Berrettini came up with a hilarious way to include Jannik Sinner in the Italian team photo. But during the competition, Sinner was in Turin for the ATP Finals, where he won.

Italy won the Davis Cup for the first time since 1976, largely thanks to Sinner. In the Davis Cup Finals, the Italian won five matches—three in singles and two in doubles—and he didn’t lose a single one. These victories also included semifinal victories over Novak Djokovic in both singles and doubles. He won the Davis Cup with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Alex de Minaur.

Italy has travelled to Malaga for the highly anticipated event in hopes of winning back-to-back titles. The eight participating countries were given a special welcome event prior to the start of the event. For the gala night, every player dressed up and took team photos.

A humorous quick fix for Sinner’s absence was provided by Matteo Berrettini, who included a photoshopped picture of the 23-year-old holding the ATP Finals trophy while standing next to Berrettini, Lorenzo Mussetti, Andrea Vavassori, Simone Bolelli, and team captain Filippo Volandri.

Berrettini also noted: “Jannik Sinner forgot the suit.”
