Qatar’s Doha The Intercontinental Cup is an intriguing new competition that the International Padel Federation (FIP) has announced would make its debut in 2025. In a style similar to the Ryder Cup in golf and the Laver Cup in tennis, this biennial competition will match up elite and up-and-coming players from the Americas against their European counterparts.

Players from up-and-coming padel nations will have fresh chances to participate at the highest level thanks to the first-ever Intercontinental Cup, which will feature the top padel talent in the world. The competition will include both men’s and women’s teams, and the winning teams will split the record-breaking €700,000 prize fund.

The competition is a major step toward padel’s possible Olympic inclusion and is consistent with the IOC’s mission to promote contemporary, internationally diverse sports. Padel Europe and Padel America, two of FIP’s continental federations, will assist in organizing the competition, which will alternate between locations in the Americas and Europe.

“The new inter-continental cup competition responds to the incredible worldwide popularity of padel and an unprecedented demand for new competition formats from both established and emerging padel fanbases, players, and partners,” said Luigi Carraro, president of the FIP, who expressed his excitement for the new competition. As we strive to become a part of the Olympic Movement as soon as possible, we are eager to realize this tournament next year and are already aware of the tremendous desire to host and partner in padel’s version of the Laver and Ryder Cup. This will further globalize padel.”

Following the 2024 FIP World Championship’s historic triumph, which further highlighted padel’s quick ascent to prominence as a major international sport, the announcement was made. It is anticipated that the Intercontinental Cup will propel the sport’s growth, particularly in new parts of the world, and aid in its expansion internationally.

In order to introduce padel to both seasoned and new fan bases in amazing places all over the world, the tournament’s tenders for venues, branding, promoters, and collaborations will soon begin.

Padel’s readiness for increased international recognition and possible future inclusion in the Olympic Games is highlighted by the Intercontinental Cup’s introduction.
