Alexander Zverev was defeated by Taylor Fritz on November 10, in the 2024 ATP Finals semifinals. The battle between the two was fought fiercely and decided by minute details.

The second-seeded Zverev entered the 2024 ATP Finals semifinals in Turin without losing a set. As for Fritz, who was ranked fifth, his only defeat during his group stage campaign came at the hands of Jannik Sinner. With Fritz winning their last three meetings, the semifinal match marked the fifth time the two men had faced each other on the ATP Tour this year.

With a single break of serve, the American player took a one-set lead against Zverev, continuing his impressive play. After breaking Fritz for the first time during the match, the German took the second set and restored parity. In the third set, the pair maintained their outstanding serving performance, with Fritz defeating Zverev 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (3) in a tiebreak.

After losing to Fritz once more, Zverev was heartbroken and complained about his lost opportunities in the press conference that followed the game. Zverev stated that he felt he played better than Fritz that day and had created more opportunities to take the lead, so it would be more difficult to move on from this loss.

He talked about it and said: “I think this one will hurt maybe a bit more because again, as I said, I thought I played at a decent level and I had more chances generally in the third set. I felt like statistically and shot-wise, my level maybe was even higher than his until the important moments. That’s where I kind of blew it. This one will hurt more than the other few.”
