Carlos Alcaraz predicted that when Novak Djokovic makes his comeback to the Australian Open next year following a dull 2024 campaign, the Serb will be extremely dangerous and prepared to contend for Grand Slam titles.
According to Alcaraz, Djokovic should not be written off for the upcoming season. Djokovic did not win a single title in 2024, except his first Olympic gold. In fact, Djokovic failed to win a single Grand Slam in a single year for the first time since 2017.
However, Alcaraz believed that Djokovic would be among the favourites to win the Australian Open title the following year because he possesses the skills necessary to make a strong comeback. Since losing to Jannik Sinner in the Shanghai Masters final, Djokovic has not played tennis.
Alcaraz talked about Djokovic at the ATP Finals and said: “A really dangerous player. We’ve seen before that it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t play an official match for two, three, four months because he’s going to come again and be able to win the tournament and be able to show a really high level of tennis. If he goes to Australia hungry, he’s going to be one of the favourites to win Australia.”
Alcaraz stated that he anticipates Djokovic to be recharged when the first Grand Slam of 2025 begins on January 12 after he withdrew from the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin due to injury.
