Speaking about Jannik Sinner’s popularity in Italy, Daniil Medvedev claimed that the 23-year-old deserved all of his possessions, including endorsements. After losing his last round-robin match against the Italian, the Russian was eliminated from the ATP Finals.
He advanced to both a Slam final and an ATP Masters 1000 final this year, but he frequently had to wait for his youthful Italian opponent, a tennis player who has essentially turned into a nightmare for him. When discussing his season at the press conference after his match against the ATP No. 1 in Turin, Medvedev appeared composed and content.
Medvedev compared Sinner to the Fab 4 and said: “Sinner is one of the best I have faced in my career. I have faced the Fab 4 when they were older and probably did not play like that. I am proud though to have finished the season at number 4, and I have played many matches. I am looking forward to the next season.”
About the season without a title, Medvedev clarified that he is unsure of what went wrong but that he will undoubtedly attempt something different.
He added: “At the moment, what we do is not enough, especially against Alcaraz and Sinner. I’m not sure that I will be able to improve my tennis, but I will try. It’s obvious that it’s not easy when you are 28 years old and you have to build a better version of yourself. It’s true that I didn’t win titles, but I only played 3 500s and then all 1000s and Slams; maybe you could have chosen smaller tournaments and won them, but I didn’t. I’m satisfied with my season anyway.”
