Nick Kyrgios has announced his much-anticipated return to competitive tennis, marking his comeback at the Brisbane International starting December 29, 2024. The Australian tennis star, who has battled a series of debilitating injuries, is also setting his sights on competing in the 2025 Australian Open in Melbourne.

Kyrgios, 29, has been sidelined for most of the past two years due to wrist and knee injuries, with his last ATP Tour match being a brief appearance at Stuttgart in June 2023. His injury troubles began after an impressive 2022 season, during which he reached the Wimbledon final and the US Open quarterfinals. However, persistent wrist issues ultimately led to surgery, followed by a ligament tear in his wrist that required further medical intervention.

Speaking to a Melbourne television station, Kyrgios expressed optimism about his physical condition. “Honestly, this is probably the best I’ve felt in two years,” he shared. Reflecting on his stellar 2022 season, Kyrgios noted that his wrist problems began during that year’s Grand Slam tournaments but emphasized his determination to return stronger.

As part of his comeback, Kyrgios plans to participate in the World Tennis League exhibition in Abu Dhabi from December 19-22. The event will feature a star-studded lineup, including Iga Swiatek, Casper Ruud, Aryna Sabalenka, Taylor Fritz, and Daniil Medvedev.

At a media conference in Brisbane, Kyrgios expressed his excitement about returning to play in front of Australian fans. “I am feeling fit and healthy, and I am excited for my return to tennis,” he said. “It has been a long journey of recovery to be where I am today.”

Currently unranked but once as high as world No. 13, Kyrgios hopes to reignite his career and recapture the form that saw him claim seven ATP Tour titles. His return at Brisbane marks the first step in what fans and critics alike hope will be a successful resurgence.
