The Tennis Channel has immediately suspended analyst Jon Wertheim from its programming after he made a disparaging comment about Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova.
Off-air, American reporter Wertheim made a remark about Krejcikova’s forehead as he got ready for a broadcast on Friday that would cover the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Wertheim said that his comment was extremely regrettable and that he apologized to Krejcikova.
Wertheim claimed in a statement released on Sunday that his remark was accidentally broadcast during a private rehearsal. Both the Tennis Channel and Jon issued an apology to Krejcikova, later on Sunday.
The statement read: “When Tennis Channel became aware of an inappropriate comment about a professional tennis player made by our analyst Jon Wertheim on Friday, we immediately removed him from our air indefinitely. Jon has dedicated his career to shining a light on and growing this sport and has been a valued member of our family and the tennis community. That said, Tennis Channel holds its employees to a standard of respectfulness for others at all times, a standard that was not met at this moment.”
