The eight highest-ranked players in the world will compete in the Nitto ATP Finals tournament, the centrepiece of the 2024 men’s pro tennis tour, which begins today in Turin. Vogue asked the following players, in order of current ranking, to reflect on the year both on and off the court and look forward to the next one before the opening match: Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur, and Andrey Rublev.

Among the well-known figures attending the eagerly awaited ATP Finals in Turin this week are Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

Additionally, Sinner defeated Alex de Minaur in his first group-stage match, giving the former a strong start on home soil. Just before the ATP Finals, Sinner worked out with Taylor Fritz; the two will now face off in Turin.

Naturally, Sinner defeated him to win his second Grand Slam title of the year in the recent US Open final. Alcaraz prevailed in the French Open and Wimbledon major finals, while the Italian also won the Australian Open.

Despite being kept apart during the group stages, Sinner and Alcaraz may be reunited at the ATP Finals.

Although Vogue asked the pair to share their plans for the off-season, their entire focus will be on achieving the most in Turin. Vogue also asked the players about their inspirations and any singer, band or poet that motivated them.

Alcaraz said in response: “That’s a difficult one.  But I am going to go with Topuria. Ilia Topuria inspired me a lot.”

Sinner responded: “My dad because he’s always hard working. He’s my hero.”

Medvedev said: “I saw an interview with Jack Harlow where he was talking about privacy, and how he separates what he wants people to know about him and what he doesn’t want them to know. One thing he said really reflects my personality. He said that people want to know everything, and as soon as you give them everything, you don’t have anything left for yourself. That was really inspirational for me and that’s what I try to follow in my life.”
