I was really looking forward to being there, but due to an ongoing injury, I won’t be playing next week. Apologies to those who were planning to see me. Wishing all the players a great tournament. See you soon!”
Sinner discussed the effects of Djokovic’s absence on the players and fans at a function held prior to this year’s tournament.
Sinner said: “Nole gave so much to the Italian public and people wanted to see him play. We are very sorry that he is not here but this is a sport, it happens that a player misses tournaments. The season has been long and in any case here there are eight great players, we hope it will be a great tournament. Nole will be missed by everyone.”
Sinner qualified for the ATP Finals for the first time in 2023 and is contending for his first title this year. The Italian replaced injured countryman Matteo Berrettini in two round-robin matches during his 2021 ATP Finals debut as an alternate.
