Andy Roddick has ruled out Alexander Zverev as the best male player without a Grand Slam title after the German’s triumph at the Paris Masters.

Spanish great David Ferrer was named by the former world number one as the player he believes should receive this honour.

Zverev defeated Ugo Humbert 6-2, 6-2 in the 2024 Paris Masters final on Sunday thanks to an incredible performance. With the victory, he won his 23rd career singles title and his seventh ATP Masters 1000 title.

Between 2000 and 2019, Ferrer played alongside the three greatest players of all time: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. In addition to reaching five more Grand Slam semifinals and finishing second at the 2013 French Open, the Spaniard won 27 ATP titles.

In addition to being a six-time Masters 1000 runner-up and a finalist at the 2007 ATP Finals, he won his biggest title at the 2012 Paris Masters.

Roddick mentioned Ferrer in response to a tweet that asked if Zverev is the greatest ATP player of all time without a Grand Slam victory, claiming the Spaniard is overlooked in the discussion.

Roddick wrote: “Not nearly enough people say David Ferrer. So so so good.”

Next week, Zverev will compete in his last tournament of 2024 at the 2024 ATP Finals in Turin, where he hopes to add a third year-end championship to his 2018 and 2021 victories.
