As the new world No. 2, Alexander Zverev praised Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz as the world’s best players. The German has advanced to the final of the Paris Masters and is currently having an amazing run.
Even though Zverev has been playing well this season, he has only won one title and has not been able to win a Major. He has regularly advanced to the final stages of tournaments; the most recent of these was at the 2024 Paris Masters.
The third-seeded German advanced to the semifinals by defeating 10th-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas, Tallon Griekspoor, and Arthur Fils. To get to the final, he easily defeated 13th seed Holger Rune 6-3, 7-6(4).
The 27-year-old was questioned about his thoughts on surpassing Alcaraz to become the new world No. 2 during the press conference held after the match.
After suffering a terrible injury at the 2022 French Open, Zverev said it was good to be back in second place in the world rankings.
He talked about it and said: “It’s nice, for sure. It’s nice to be back in the highest position that I have been in so far. Of course, I want to get higher, but for me still Jannik had the best year this season, for sure, and then Carlos had the second-best year. He won two Grand Slams. I know that I’m ahead of him in the rankings maybe, but for me, he won Wimbledon and Roland Garros. Those are two massive titles. So they are still the two best players in the world, in my opinion, at the moment.”
