Ugo Humbert is living the dream after securing a spot in the ATP Masters 1000 final at the Rolex Paris Masters. The 26-year-old French player defeated Karen Khachanov in a hard-fought match, winning 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-3, to reach his first final at this elite level.
Playing in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, Humbert showcased his explosive style, especially in the critical moments of the match. He capitalized on Khachanov’s physical limitations late in the third set, making him the fifth Frenchman to reach the title match in the tournament’s history.
“It is amazing to do it in Paris at my favourite tournament. It is a dream,” Humbert exclaimed after the match. He acknowledged the added pressure he felt, especially after dropping the first set, but focused on enjoying the moment and connecting with the crowd.
Humbert’s victory marked his 13th consecutive win on indoor hard courts in France, following earlier titles in Metz and Marseille. His impressive performance included hitting 35 winners against Khachanov, showcasing his ability to dominate from both wings. With this win, Humbert ascended to No. 14 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, and a victory in the final would propel him to a career-high No. 11.
Despite Khachanov’s competitive spirit, he struggled with a leg injury that prompted a medical timeout at a pivotal moment in the third set. The No. 21 ranked player was unable to recover, resulting in his defeat after nearly three hours of play.
Humbert is the first Frenchman to reach the Paris final since Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 2011, and he aims to become the first French champion since Tsonga’s victory in 2008. He will face Alexander Zverev in the championship match, hoping to extend his impressive 6-1 record in finals. Humbert is level at 1-1 in their head-to-head encounters, making the upcoming match even more thrilling as he seeks his seventh tour-level title.
