Strange stuff happens in Belgrade.
Andy Murray has just won his 2nd Wimbledon to decide not to play the David Cup tie against Serbia on clay. According to the British no.1, the decision was made on Monday afternoon after some consultations. Nevertheless, Andy has decided to fly on Thursday to Belgrade to support his team.
Why Murray will not play
Andy expressed his regret for not playing and he commented as follows.
“I obviously would have loved to have played. But it was going to be quite a tight turnaround and after chatting to my team, I wasn’t going to be able to do it. I am happy to be here and just try and help, but it’s tough not to want to hit some balls.
We made the decision on Monday afternoon. I spoke to Ivan in the morning, I spoke to Jamie a little bit, talked to Leon too.
I am not here to coach any of the guys, and I’m not going to start telling anybody what to do. But if anyone wants to ask me anything I will try and help wherever I can and just support the team.”
The tie will always miss the presence of Novak Djokovic. That was the obvious outcome after scheduling this round on clay soon after the “grass season” and just before the “America Summer” [that will be played hard courts].
