Alexander Zverev wants to take a long break before the 2025 season, so he will not be playing for Germany in the Davis Cup Finals next month.

Zverev has been injured this year, and after complaining of lung issues, he was recently diagnosed with pneumonia. His final 2024 tournament will be the ATP Finals in Turin, where he will compete in the Paris Masters this week.

Zverev stated that he will not be attending the Davis Cup Finals, which are set for November 19–24 in Malaga. His 2025 campaign begins on December 29 when Germany, the reigning champions, takes on Brazil at the United Cup in Australia.

Zverev said in a statement issued by the German Tennis Federation on Monday: “I’ve been forced to make the difficult decision to end the season after the ATP Finals so that I have enough time to recover and be back at 100% for the United Cup and the Australian Open.”

He added: “It was a very challenging season in which I had to play through a knee injury in order to be able to take part in the Olympic Games. Now I’m doing my best to finish the season well despite problems with my lung. Unfortunately, I will not be able to represent Germany at the Davis Cup finals in Malaga.”
