Federer and Nadal all set to play for charity in Cape Town

Fantastic news for the tennis fans in South Africa as Roger Federer announces that he and Rafael Nadal will play in an exhibition match for charity in Cape Town sometime in 2020.

At the moment, the world no.3 is all set to compete in the Wimbledon for his 9th title. Having won the Halle Open, the world no.3 is favourites to win the tournament.

Federer and Nadal have been great tennis rivals over the years. They have played in some of the most memorable tennis matches in the history of the game. The 2008 finals that they played is widely regarded as the best tennis match ever.

What Federer said about Nadal

Federer had very nice words to say about Nadal while talking to the Vogue magazine:

“He’s an intense guy on the court, he’s super honest and open off the court and he’s got a heart of gold.”

He hoped that there will be a record-breaking crowd for the charity match in Cape Town:

“We’re going to try to break the record for most attendance, in Cape Town, South Africa for my foundation, I’m so looking forward to it so thank you Rafa.”

According to the Guinness World Records, the most attended match was ever played on 8th July 2010 in Brussels with 35,681 people watching the match between Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams. This match was also special because it was umpired by none other than Martina Navratilova.

Both these champion players have played exhibitions matches before most notably in 2007 when they played the battle of surfaces with half of the court was clay and the other half grass.

Its definitely going to be very exciting for the fans, whoever wins, at the end of the day its charity which is going to win.
