It’s confirmed! Andy Murray and Serena Williams will play mixed doubles in Wimbledon.

The Brit is staging his comeback to tennis after his hip operation by playing doubles. Andy was already pretty successful when competing at the Queen’s Club following his triumph alongside Feliciano Lopez and he is going for more in Wimbledon where he will side with Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

The former world no.1 admitted that he was turned down by many players when seeking a partner in mixed doubles. However, he probably found the best possible player: Serena Williams.

The American sensation made it public that she was available to play with Andy, and now it’s official!

Murray played mixed at Wimbledon back in 2006 where he sided with Kirsten Flipkens and reached the 2nd round. He won the silver with Laura Robson in the London 2012 Olympics that were also played at the All England Club.

Williams is a 2-time mixed doubles Grand Slam champion when she teamed-up with Max Mirnyi at Wimbledon and the US Open back in 1998.

Serena Williams on Andy Murray

During a recent press conference in Wimbledon, when asked about Andy, Serena commented

“His work ethic is just honestly off the charts. That’s something I’ve always respected about him.

His fitness, everything. To do what he’s done in an era where there’s so many other great male tennis players, so much competition, to rise above it, not many people have done it. He’s actually one of the few.”

The draw will be out on Wednesday and this will also relaunch a discipline (mixed doubles) that has a lot of potential and it’s also fun.
