World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has been forced to withdraw from the 2024 Paris Masters due to an intestinal virus. The Italian tennis star, who was set to face either Ben Shelton or Corentin Moutet in his opening match, announced his withdrawal on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

Sinner, who has had an outstanding 2024 season with seven titles, including two Grand Slams and three Masters 1000 events, was aiming for his first Paris Masters title. Unfortunately, he contracted the virus before his arrival in Paris, which has left him feeling weak and unable to compete at his highest level.

In a press conference, Sinner expressed his disappointment, saying, “I’m very disappointed to tell you that I’m not able to play here in this tournament. I came very early here to prepare, but I fell sick, and I’m having a virus at the moment, which is going to last the next two-three days, so body-wise, I’m not ready to compete.”

The organizers of the Paris Masters confirmed that Sinner’s place in the draw has been taken by lucky loser Arthur Cazaux. Sinner’s focus now shifts to recovering in time for the upcoming ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, from November 10th to 17th.
