Emma Raducanu admits she is grateful for her health despite recent injury woes

Emma Raducanu, who is still dealing with a foot problem, said she is more grateful for her health than her performance after reflecting on her prolonged injury layoff from the previous campaign.

Raducanu Talks About Her Injury

Amidst her ongoing struggles with a foot issue, Emma Raducanu reflected on her lengthy injury layoff from the previous season and said she is more thankful for her health than for her results.

A ligament injury forced Raducanu to retire from her quarterfinal match at the Korea Open in Seoul, and she has since withdrawn from five tournaments. But her terrible 2023 season, in which she missed eight months of action overall, is far worse than her current troubles.

The 21-year-old dropped outside the top 200 of the WTA Rankings after undergoing wrist and ankle surgery and missing three of the four Grand Slam competitions.

The British player has returned to the top 60 in 2024, but she talked about the challenges she faced the previous season in a video with sponsor HSBC.

She talked about it and said: “I was out for eight months, and I had three surgeries, and the rehab wasn’t as straightforward as everyone planned. Initially, the return to play was only meant to be four months, and it ended up being double because I came back a bit too quickly and then did more damage. So I think I also learned a lesson in patience and trying to rush things.”

She added: “In terms of coming back, it takes a while to get up to the speed of the game. The match is different from practice as well and introduces unpredictability, so I think now I’m just more grateful for my health than the results. When you’re on the sidelines watching everything go past you, and yeah, it was difficult, I just had to shut it off, and I actually couldn’t watch anything.”
