Miami and Madrid's major tennis tournaments appear to be up for sale, and there are rumours that the ATP Tour may make a big move by relocating one of them to Saudi Arabia.

The major tennis tournaments in Miami and Madrid seem to be up for sale, with rumours circulating that the ATP Tour might make a significant move by moving one of them to Saudi Arabia.

The Miami Open and Madrid Open tennis tournaments are among the events that Endeavor, the multinational media and entertainment conglomerate, has started to review.

The two competitions are among the top WTA 1000 events on the WTA Tour and one of the nine men’s ATP Masters 1000 events held annually.

This news follows IMG’s $3.25 billion sale to TKO, along with the acquisition of On Location and Professional Bull Riders. Although IMG has been hosting tennis tournaments in Miami and Madrid, it appears that the company’s new owners are thinking of selling the two events.

Naturally, that will lead to rumours that they might be sold to the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), who are rumoured to be eager to host a significant ATP Tour and WTA Tour event in their kingdom each year.

The idea of holding a Saudi Masters in the first week of January to prepare elite players for the Australian Open has been floated, but that plan may be modified if the PIF can purchase the Miami or Madrid tournaments.

IMG purchased the Miami Open for about $300 million in 1999, and the Madrid Open was sold to the group for an estimated $380 million in April 2022.

Saudi sporting officials demonstrated their desire to enter the tennis world by hosting the recent Six Kings Slam, which Jannik Sinner won. For just three days of play, Sinner took home a record-breaking $6 million winners’ check.
