Casper Ruud was candid when talking about the tour’s frequent ball changes because he thinks some of his teammates are too dramatic.

Many players from the ATP and WTA Tours, including some of the biggest names in the sport, have been complaining about the balls for the past two years. It only got worse in early 2023 when some players began to assert that the increasing number of injuries in professional tennis was directly related to the balls being used.

Players frequently complain about having to constantly adjust to a new ball type because different tournaments use different kinds, which strains the body and can lead to injuries. It should be mentioned that most of those players agree that a particular swing calls for the use of at least one kind of ball.

However, Ruud explains why he believes that almost everything is nonsense. Ruud shared his thoughts about it and said: “You see players complain about the balls all the time. I’m getting so tired of like, ‘Oh, I feel my elbow; I feel this, that. I can’t produce power. It suits this player. Come on. Just play.’ For me what’s funny is some players come five days in advance to practice. And I do it myself a lot of time going from tournament to tournament. They string like 28 rackets to get the right tension. Then they come to the fourth round and start complaining about the balls.”

He added: “But it’s been the same balls for the past nine days. What’s the point of bringing it up now to the umpire? Like, what is he going to change? ‘Yeah, let me call Dunlop; I’ll have them send over a can for you.’. What’s the point? Just to make drama out of nothing.”
